A QR code and a linear barcode can identify the same item, but scanners and workflows treat them differently. Start with the system that will read the label, then choose a format it supports.
Use a static QR code for destinations and readable data
A static QR code contains the actual URL, Wi-Fi details or text. There is no redirect service to renew, but the underlying website must still exist. Leave a clear white margin around the code, use strong contrast and test the printed label with more than one phone before producing a large batch.

Use a barcode for inventory and checkout workflows
Code 128 is a useful default for internal alphanumeric IDs. EAN-13 and UPC-A are fixed retail formats; generating a valid-looking image does not assign a legitimate retail number. Obtain official identifiers when a retailer or marketplace requires them.
Print checklist
- Keep dark bars or modules on a light, plain background.
- Do not stretch the downloaded image out of proportion.
- Leave quiet space around every code and avoid glossy glare.
- Test the smallest planned size on the actual printer and material.
- Verify that every batch value maps to the correct physical item.

Common questions
QR code and barcode FAQ
Do static QR codes expire?
No. The destination is encoded directly in the image. The code can still fail if the printed surface becomes unreadable or the destination URL stops working.
Can I change a static QR destination later?
No. Changing the embedded destination creates a different QR code. If you control the encoded web URL, you can update the content or redirect at that URL, but Ready QR itself does not provide tracking or redirects.
Can I create retail UPC or EAN numbers here?
Ready QR renders numbers you already have and checks basic length rules. It does not issue company prefixes or official retail identifiers.
Why will my printed code not scan?
Common causes include low contrast, insufficient empty margin, printing too small, image distortion, glare, damage or a URL containing a typing error. Test the downloaded file and the final physical label.
Is batch data stored?
No. The current batch is processed in your browser and is not saved to a Ready QR account or application database.
